Baobab or monkey bread tree is also called the the 'tree of life', it grows in Africa, Western Australia and Madagascar and its fruit and leaves are used in cooking. The powder derived  from a dried baobab fruit can be added to soups, smoothies and generally all cooking. 10g , which is a tablespoon will give a person 33% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of fibre. The oil can even be used as garnish for salads.

Baobab trees are famous for being one of the largest trees on earth, with it's  claim that they can be so large that they can store about 1200000 liters of rain water for a long time especially to nourish itself in droughts. The baobab tree has a fruit about the size of a large mango which is green on the outside but has a soft flesh inside.

There are many health benefits of baobaba including its ability to release pectin which is a type of soluble fibre which is said to act like a sponge in the blood by soaking up unwanted fat and cholesterol. Baobab is used in both cooking and the use of all parts of the tree in making medicinal remedies from its leaves, roots or bark girdled from the trunk to eating its fruit. Baobaba oil is expelled from the seed which is used in cooking as well as used for skincare and it can be either cold pressed or with heat. When buying, it can be difficult to tell which process has been used to yield any baobab oil. Unless you are buying directly from the source, take it with a pinch of salt that every brand of baobab oil is cold pressed. Cold pressing oils provides a very small yield and it is commercially not economical or easy to sustain an oil production business. This way entirely making large cold pressed oils production very difficult. Baobab oil is also moisturizing for the skin as it is highly emollient and contains antioxidant properties such as vitamin E but to get the best out of it for skin applications it is best applied directly to the skin.

The fruit contains six times more vitamin C than oranges which is known to protect our cells, maintain connective tissue and aids in the healing of wounds. Baobab also has more than twice the calcium levels in milk which is required for bone growth and especially the development of children. The fruit contains vitamin B1 which helps with digestive disorders such as poor appetite, chronic diarrhea, Vitamin B6 and iron which are necessary for the production of the red blood cells that carry oxygen around our body.
